Change: Friend or Foe?
For years I have lived in our home, worked in my studio and counseled in my office. Now change has occurred! My husband has chosen to work only part of the year! (How did he get to be that old anyway!!) His dream has always been to live the winter in a warm environment. So, here we go! Making plans for a great adventure. He was really excited and I was happy but was dragging my feet behind. When I was younger I longed for freedom and travel. Now that it is here I am surprized at my reaction. It took a few weeks for me to plan how I can transport my artwork with me. As any artist knows, we pack our art supplies first. It is very difficult to take a wet studio and all the stuff to Tucson. What now?? Change started out being a foe ( what about this and that- I couldn't possibility leave my this or that!).
What nonsence. I have to laugh at myself! I needed to get out of my secure little nest and embrace my sense of adventure! Think of warm breezes instead of snow storms! Wake up and smell the coffee or roses!! First of all, I used my creativity to plan my artwork in advance. I will make the paper and sculptures in December and finish them in Tucson in the winterr. I am taking a soft pastel class and hope to use that medium instead of all of my handmade acrylics. But who knows? I may take both.
Now it is fun planning photo shoots, side trips, long afternoon of painting without distractions. Life is good and a new surrounding will spur my creativity. One thing is trure: life is full of change and we can choose how to live with it. More later....

MAGIC OF THE MOMENT
Yesterday I had lunch with four creative women: a weaver, painter, a hospice aroma therapist and massage therapist. After complaining about all of the political call before the elections, we spoke about the best moments when we are in our studio or with clients. Everyone agreed that the best time is when we are in a creative space where one looses a sense of time and distractions. It is totally focusing upon what we are doing or who we are with. The left hemisphere takes over. Our concentration deepens. Our right hemisphere is used for problem solving. It is a meditation. In art we express our inner self (sounds corney but words cannot properly describe the process). In a healing relationships we are one with our clients. Our ego is not involved. We are here and this is now. The magic of the moment is being totally connected with something larger than ourselves. We give this gift to our art collectors and to our clients. Most of the time we recieve more than we give.

Art is about creation. It is an expression of my soul into an outer form. Creativity is a power greater than myself that lights the fire in my belly, transforms into images, which uses raw and primal urges to make art.
After attending a creativity and soul workshop I spent time journaling. I explored doubt and judgment that thwarts creativity. Here is what I wrote.

Old thoughts and judgments surface
An urge not to play in the studio.
A racket of a band playing off key.

A shift, a change, something is happening!
An inspiration and urgency to take shapes
and forms, pulp and designs, colors and textures.
Play in the muck!
Loose track of time and space.
Pull colors and objects from drawers
and shelves.

This is the time!
This is the day!
Step out of the way!
Let the creator spin a trance!
This is the energy that forms
art from images.
That marks the journey of
all artists
From inner senses to
outer form
A way of living that nutures our souls
and leaves our mark for others to see.
